A Bedtime Prayer

The following is an adaptation of my Instagram post.

Asleep in Peace

Jesus slept through a storm that terrified his disciples (Mark 4).

It wasn’t that he was indifferent.

It wasn’t that he was overtired.

It wasn’t that he was inattentive to the concerns of his disciples.

It was simply that he had no concerns.

Fully in control as God and fully within the trustworthy oversight of his Father God, he slept peacefully. His calm testified to his sovereignty, for he had no reason to fear

As you climb into bed this evening, may you lay your head on your pillow and your fears at his feet, sleeping in the calm of the One who sits overall.

As you climb into bed this evening, may you lay your head on your pillow and your fears at his feet, sleeping in the calm of the One who sits overall.

Pray this Prayer

Father,

You are in control of all that is seen and unseen. There is nothing that catches you by surprise or causes you to fear, for there is nothing beyond the realm of your power.

Still, you are not indifferent to my fears. You keep a watchful eye over me and deliberately extend yourself into my world of worries. With skill and compassion, you show your authority to be reliable and teach me that it is good.

Because you are trustworthy, I will lay my head on my pillows and my fears at your feet. I will sleep in peace, knowing that you alone make me safe and secure.

Amen
