Walking With You

God gave me this encouragement earlier this week when I was knee-deep in planning the next-steps for my speaking ministry. Through it, he reminded me that I don’t need to feel foolish for pushing down the gas peddle and pursuing my goals with reckless abandon because he is sitting in the front seat next to me. I hope the following invites you to ponder your God-given desires and silences any internal conflict you might be facing.

“You can’t run ahead without Me.
I won’t fall back and mock you.
I will walk with you and show you the way.”

You know what it feels like to be left standing on your own, foolish. The sense of abandonment by those who you thought had your back but proved to be the first to turn back pulses through your extremities as a heavy weight. Though you struggle to make out their words, you still hear their mockery in the background as faint dark noise.

Perhaps they lacked confidence in you or perhaps they were jealous of your self-confidence.

Perhaps they were too unhappy with their own lack of achievement to be happy with yours.

Perhaps they themselves have been harmed and your resilience catches on the scab’s edge of their wounds.

Or perhaps they are truly horrid, delighting in your downfall without rhyme or reason.

You know what it feels like to be left standing alone

    But

          you

                are

                     not

                          alone.

Good Father walks with you.

    But

          what

                if

                     he

                          changes

                             his

                                mind?

He will never leave you or forsake you.

    But

          what

                if

                     I

                          walk

                             too

                                fast?

He is already there.

    But

          what

                if

                     I

                          trip?

He will pick you up.

    But

          what

                if

                     I

                          get

                             tired?

He will renew your strength.

    But

          what

                if

                     it

                          gets

                             dark?

His words will be a lamp to your feet and a light for your path.

But

          what

                if

                     he

                          secretly

                             wishes

                                    he

                                     didn’t

                                        come

                                           along?

He pursued you.

    He delights in you.

   He loves you.

Dear Child,

You can’t run ahead without Me. I won’t fall back and mock you. I will walk with you and show you the way.
